Cyber-stalking is a dangerous crime and one that goes unnoticed till it is too late. Cyber-stalking is unwarranted consistent contact with someone you had no relationship or had a prior relationship that is no longer. Many times this can happen to our children, with them being on different social networks they are easy targets.

It really does not take much effort to find your child on the internet. Young adults and children find the social networks on the internet a great place to find friends and socialize with other that have similar interests. The problem here however is that many times our children friend people they do not even know thinking that since they are a friend of someone else they have in common it is okay. Once they have befriended them the “new friend” now has access to all of their information. It does not take much to stalk them soon after that.

Cyber-stalking can hurt them emotionally and it should be at all costs a parents duty to prevent this from happening. We as parents need to teach our children how to protect themselves and to recognize cyber-stalkers. Parents can do this by teaching their children to be careful of messages they put out on the web and checking to see if there are web pages put out by others that may be hurtful to your child. We also need to teach our children to respect the internet and to treat others the same way they would want to be treated, harmless information can be construed incorrectly causing offense and the ability for a cyber-stalker to lash out. We also need to stress to our young adults not to respond to heated emails and that if they receive a email that is inappropriate to report to their parents and as parents we can then contact our internet service provider to help block this person. These are a few steps that can help prevent cyber-stalking.

The best way to protect our children from cyber-stalking is to communicate the dangers of it and what to do if it happens to them. We want our children to enjoy their online experience but we also want and need them to be able to do it safely.

Kids still need to avoid certain sites when they are web surfing. Anything can pop up, such as ads, that may direct them to unwanted sites. This can be avoided. Parents will just have to arrange the settings where a block is placed on certain sites. Parents can adjust the security on the internet and only allow kids to go on certain sites while they are web surfing. You will not have to worry about checking in on the while they are on the computer if you just adjust the settings. There are so many websites that are inappropriate for children, that this should raise a concern to parents.This/tag helps explain it more. There is different type of software that parents can buy that will block out certain content from children. There is so much that can be done to prevent unwanted things while they are on the internet. They should always ask permission to get online before they just do it. Their web surfing should be monitored at all times. If your kid loves playing games online, they should only be limited to certain gaming websites. Anything else that they may need help with should be discussed over with an adult for safety.

You should always talk to your children about these types of things so that you can keep them safe. There’s so much that can go wrong while a child is surfing the internet. They can run into predators, and even run into content that is very inappropriate for them.

Anyone who owns a computer wants to protect it at all costs. Personal information, photos, kids games, etc. All are on a computer and a virus could wipe out all these things and more. There is software available to purchase or download that protects all your information 24/7. You will also want to protect your children when they are playing games or when they want to do research on the internet. Having a program that is password protected is your best bet. Since you set this up and enter the password yourself means your children or others cannot access anything you don’t feel is appropriate. This software can be used on more than one computer, at home or at work for protection every day. Since the internet provides so much information on many subjects and can be a useful tool for anyone, protecting against viruses, monitoring internet searches and being responsible will be your best defense in these areas. Blocking innappropriate content is adviseable. You can do this with the step by step instructions included with the software. As well it will automatically update regularly and alert you when it is being accessed by an unknown person without the password you’ve chosen.

Children may get access to some type of online chatting rooms giving out information to people that they do not even know. This is the reason why certain content should be blocked at all times. They should only be allowed on certain websites. Parents can adjust the security settings on the internet so that they are restricted to certain websites. They should also be educated about what sites they should and should not go on. They should also be educated on how they should never give out any personal information about themselves or their family online. Pop up ads may come about while your child is surfing, and they just need to know what to do in cases like this. If your child is educated, you will not have to worry about anything going wrong.
